Men’s Health Week

Men across Australia are being urged to keep the balance between a healthy body and a healthy mind in the lead up to this year’s Men’s Health Week, which will be celebrated from June 12-18.

This year’s theme “HEALTHY BODY – HEALTHY MIND: KEEPING THE BALANCE” explores the different ways men and boys are managing to keep healthy, physically and emotionally, in a busy and sometimes challenging world. Balancing these challenges means doing things that are nourishing and good.

Reach out to men and boys this Men’s Health Week and create events that respond to the issues impacting on the health of men, boys and their families in your local area.

Men’s Health Week is your opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of our men and boys.

During the course of the week, events, health checks and seminars will be held to help educate men and their families on positive health and wellbeing, as well as the warning signs to look out for.

One local Lara man striving to encourage more men to talk openly about their health is Ingenia Lifestyle Lara resident Bill Fulton, who has organised a program full of doctors and expert speakers to talk to fellow residents and the community during the health week.

“This year’s Men’s Health Week program includes a variety of presenters that will speak to men on a range of topics, including strokes, osteopathic, exercise, diabetes, skin cancer and improvements for everyday health and wellbeing,” Mr Fulton said.

“We are also encouraging spouses and partners to attend the talks to help prompt men to take better care of themselves, particularly as they get older.”

This isn’t the first time the Lara locals have strived to champion men’s health and wellbeing – having started a Men’s Group in the community to build friendships and to encourage more men to socialise.

“We started the group about 18 months ago in the hope of providing a more structured program of events for men in the community to participate in – and we are still going strong today,” Mr Fulton said.

“About 15 men from the community meet every fortnight for a get together and every alternate fortnight we have an outing.

“We cover a whole range of interests and activities. We have visited such places as Science Works, The War Memorial Shrine in Melbourne, the restoration of a World War 2 Bomber and a Ferry Trip from Queenscliff to Sorrento for lunch.”

Ingenia Lifestyle Lara will continue to support its local men’s group, with the construction of a community Men’s Shed set to be completed later this year.

Ingenia Lifestyle Lara’s Men’s Health Week program is running from 13 – 16 June at Ingenia Lifestyle Lara, 40 Watt Street, Lara.
