National Cherry Festival program ‘jam’ packed with red hot events

cherriesThe town of Young in NSW is gearing up to host the 2011 National Cherry Festival, and this year’s festival program is packed with a great mix of events.

To be held on 2 – 4 December, this year’s National Cherry Festival not only celebrates the arrival of Young’s most precious crop, but will see a highly colourful program of events and activities with something to suit all tastes and ages.

“From the excitement of the Extreme FMX Air Freestyle Moto Cross Team display, to fresh produce of our local farmers markets, live music and spectacular fireworks, this year’s festival program is sure to delight all visitors to Young,” said Claire Myers, Marketing Officer at the Young Visitor Centre and Treasurer of the National Cherry Festival Committee.

“We will of course have all our favourite cherry themed events back for this year including the Wilders Bakery Cherry Pie Eating Competition, Woolworths Cherry Festival Street parade and the Cherry Pip Spit Competition,” she continued.

“There’s also a program of Fringe events happening in and around Young over the festival period which includes carnivals, championship dog shows, the Young’s Got Talent competition, art exhibitions, a short film festival and much more,” she concluded.

2011 National Cherry Festival Program Highlights

 Friday 2nd  December:

o   Extreme FMX Air Freestyle Moto Cross Team display – 6.30pm and 7.15pm

o   Uluru – local band playing the very latest covers and Aussie rock songs – 6.50 and 8pm

o   Essential Energy Fireworks display – 9.30pm

 Saturday 3rd December:

o   Farmers Markets 7am -12noon

o   Auto Pro Cherry Festival Car Show – 9am – 2pm

o   Live Music – various times throughout the day

o   Orchard and Cellar Door Tours (limited numbers) – various times throughout the day

o   Woolworths Cherry Festival Street parade – 4pm

o   Milo the Clown Show – 11.30am

o   Cherry Hat Competition – 11.30am

o   Wilders Bakery Cherry Pie Eating Competition – 1pm

  Sunday 4th December:

o   Donges Supa IGA and The Young Witness Big Breakfast – 7am – 10am

o   Bush Poets in the Marquee – 8am – 10am

o   Live Music – various times throughout the day

o   Cherry Pip Spit Competition – 11am
