Easy tips for supporting your bone health:

  • Adequate calcium

Boost your daily calcium intake by including calcium rich foods at meal times or snack times.

How much? 1,300 mg per day is recommended for women over 50 years and men over 70 years.

  • Adequate vitamin D

Absorb the calcium you eat. Limited sun exposure will boost your vitamin D levels

  • Exercise for bones – combination of weight bearing, resistance, and balance exercises

Poor bone health can lead to osteoporosis and unwanted fractures. There are currently over 183,000 related fractures each year.

An easy way to check your bone health is to visit the online self-assessment Know Your Bones.

This program was developed by Healthy Bones Australia to help Australians understand risk factors for osteoporosis.

Over 100,000 adults have completed the self-assessment and results can be discussed with a GP if required.
