Finding Love at The Mandurah Arts Festival

Djinda Boodja’s Art Director, Tabatha Davison, loves to do the unexpected. Pulling from her varied career pathway (from real estate to accounting to teaching to nightclubbing and beyond), she uses her unique experiences to inspire her in creating engaging, approachable and exciting community arts workshops.

And Speed Dating Art is no exception! Davison wanted to dip her toes into the dating industry, but with a different bent. A lot of singles events are based at pubs or centred around drinking; however, this does not always stimulate the most coherent conversations or is a place where some people feel comfortable finding love.

And that’s how Speed Dating Art was born! Davison says: ‘I wanted to create something outside of the pubs and taverns, where people who don’t drink or those who don’t want to be around that type of atmosphere could find love, too’. She adds: ‘Plus, it’s something creative. It can be awkward trying to start a conversation with a complete stranger, and doing something helps to give participants a topic, as well as engage them in a collaborative activity. That helps when you’re meeting someone new!’

What is more, Speed Dating Art takes participants off dating apps and encourages good old fashioned face-to-face meeting. So, if you want to meet someone new and the impersonal apps just aren’t right for you, then DB encourages you to try one of its Speed Dating Art Workshops this Mandurah Arts Festival.

Speed Dating Art is a great way to meet new friends or your next love, and DB promises a hilarious time as you try your hand at still art drawing. You will receive 10 minutes per person to see if you have a spark before you go onto meeting the next lucky bachelor or bachelorette. Each workshop lasts 1.5 hours, and participants take their art portraits of their new interests’ home with them, too!
