It’s a comfortable and scenic 90-minute drive south from Hobart to Tahune Adventures Tasmania, one of southern Tasmania’s must-see attractions. The road from the city takes you through the Huon Valley, with its orchards and farmlands; then alongside the broad Huon River, passing the riverside town of Franklin, home of the Wooden Boat Centre; and through the timber town of Geeveston on the fringe of the mighty Southern Forests and the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.

At Tahune Forest Adventures you can walk high above the forest canopy and share the lives of the forest giants from up-close, looking down to the place where the wild waters of the Huon and Picton Rivers mingle. The 600-metre walkway ends at a spectacular cantilevered platform 50 metres above the riverbank, with views extending to the mountains of the World Heritage Area.

Here you can soar like an eagle from a lofty perch high in the treetops, feeling the wind beneath your wings as you dip and swoop on a thrilling 450-metre  return cable hang-gliding flight across the Huon River. Admire the stunning views below you.

The Huon Pine Walk is easily managed by most people and is the one of the best places in Tasmania to see young and mature Huon pines growing in their natural riverine rainforest environment.

Then follow the forest and riverside trail to the Swinging Bridge track, crossing two swinging suspension bridges across the rushing waters of the Picton and Huon Rivers. The churning, tannin-coloured water beneath your feet began as rain and snow, deep in the Southwest wilderness.

Take a break visit the café and visitor centre complex to enjoy local Tasmanian produce, Tasmanian salmon and honey,  the Huon Valley’s wonderful cool-climate wines and local ciders. Pause for a snack, light meal, tea, coffee or an ice cream. Browse in the gift shop and choose a piece of Huon pine to purchase with its unique scent to remind you of your visit.

Although this tourist development has changed the area from many years ago, it is still a popular place for locals to picnic with family and friends in one of the many shelters or tables, while cooking lunch on the gas barbecues.

River, forest sky – you’ll discover them all at Tahune Adventures Tasmania.
